Erin Cox’s seal of approval on signet rings
What is a SIGNET ring?
Let’s start with the basics! A signet ring is a type of ring traditionally engraved with a personal or family symbol, such as a coat of arms or initials, often used to stamp a seal in wax for authentication. Historically signet rings were worn by men of status but are now a popular unisex accessory that represents heritage or personal identity.
What is the history of the SIGNET ring?
The signet ring dates back to ancient civilisations like Egypt and Rome, where it was used by nobles and officials to authenticate documents with a wax seal. Over time, it became a symbol of power and status in European aristocracy, often passed down through generations as a family heirloom.
What metal is best for an SIGNET ring?
At Erin Cox Jewellery we offer signet rings in 9ct/18ct gold & platinum. Gold (particularly 9ct or 18ct) offers durability and a classic look, while platinum is extremely strong and resistant to tarnish, making it ideal for daily wear. The best choice depends on personal preference, durability needs, and budget.
WHAT FINGER DO YOU WEAR A SIGNET RING ON?
Traditionally, signet rings are worn on the pinky finger of the non-dominant hand. However, modern trends have seen them worn on other fingers, like the ring or index finger, depending on personal style and cultural preferences.
What face shape is best for a singet ring?
Again this depends on your personal preference. Oval is the most popular choice for signet rings but Erin has crafted various shaped signet rings featuring shapes including hexagonal, cushion and rectangle.
What size face is best for a singet ring?
The best face size for a signet ring depends on personal preference, hand size, and the level of detail in the face. Generally, a face diameter of 10-15mm is common for men, while 8-12mm is popular for women. For a bold, statement look, larger faces may be chosen, while smaller sizes offer a more subtle, classic appearance.
Why not Add diamonds rubies and sapphires to your signet ring?
Erin is known for reinventing classic jewellery with her bold, unconventional approach. As an alternative or as an addition to traditional engravings, she adds a modern twist by flush-setting tiny rubies, sapphires, and diamonds—both white and coloured—into the faces of some of her signet rings, creating truly unique and eye-catching designs.
How much is a signet ring?
Remodelling your own gold into a signet ring starts from £430. Our current ready to wear signet rings start from £489, price increasing with weight.
How to get your signet ring size?
Choosing the right size for a signet ring is crucial, so take your time! Their unique shape makes them more challenging to size perfectly, which is why we recommend visiting a jeweller like us for accurate sizing. Since signet rings are often worn on the pinky, where there's less knuckle to hold them in place, a snug but comfortable fit is key to avoid losing it. If you're gifting a signet ring but unsure of the size, you can find helpful sizing tips here. We also offer gift vouchers and a resizing service, so you can gift with confidence!

Adding Engraving to your signet ring…
We are proud to collaborate with a master engraver to bring you timeless, handcrafted engravings. As one of the few artisans still practicing the traditional art of hand engraving in the UK, his skill is truly exceptional. Subject to the level of texture, he can even add his artistry to our molten textured signets. From initials to intricate crests and seal engravings, every piece is meticulously cut without the use of machines or laser etching, ensuring a level of craftsmanship that is increasingly rare! POR.
