Opals galore for the Two Moors Festival

I have been having a wonderful time designing some opal jewellery to be auctioned for charity.

This necklace and two rings (if I ever get them finished!) will be auctioned to raise money for The Two Moors Festival. (

This worthy charity was set up in response to the devastation caused by the Foot and Mouth outbreak of 2001. Devon locals, John and Penny Adie (Festival organisers) recognised the need to bring cheer to people's lives and to help regenerate the local economy. This provided the inspiration behind the Festival. They felt that a week of stunning music-making in churches across Exmoor and Dartmoor would be suitable for marking the end of this tragic outbreak. Out of the ashes of Foot and Mouth Disease came the Two Moors Festival.

The aim of the Festival has moved on from its original premise of encouraging people to return to an area hit hard by FMD. Since 2001, a myriad talented musicians have been invited to play across Exmoor and Dartmoor, countless schools have been visited with our workshop programme, we now have an Imperial Concert Grand Piano (courtesy of Bösendorfer) and in 2010 Christina Williams designed a Two Moors Festival garden which won Best Courtyard Garden and a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show. 2011's programme, themed "Arrangements and Transcriptions", drew bigger audiences than ever and a second recording by BBC Radio 3.
